SWAMI VIVEKANANDA
Swami Vivekananda, born on the 12th January 1863, has
been a great patriot monk of India with intense love for his motherland.
He went to Kanyakumari and continuously for 3 days and 3 nights from
25th December, 1892 sat on the mid-sea rock meditating on India's past,
present and future. It was on this rock that he discovered the mission
for a glorious India and later traveled not only to every corner of the
country but all over the world to disseminate India's spirituality.
Swami Vivekananda traveled to the USA and participating
in the World Parliament of Religions at Chicago, delivered his
epoch-making speech on 11th September, 1893. There his greatness was
instantly recognized and acknowledged as he stressed on co-existence of
the religions and exhorted that different religions are only different
ways to reach to the same goal. In honour of such a patriot and
wandering monk who rested tremendous faith on the youth of the nation,
Indian Government in the year 1984 declared his Birth Day to be
celebrated as National Youth Day every year.
VIVEKANANDA KENDRA
Vivekananda Kendra is a spiritually oriented service
organization with its headquarters at Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu. On the
same sanctified place where Swami Vivekananda had meditated for 3 days
and 3 nights , Late Mananeeya Eknathji Ranade, with the participation of
millions of people of India constructed the "Vivekananda Rock Memorial"
in 1970. The memorial symbolises the mission of India as seen by Swami

the needs of the staff of North Eastern Coal Field at Margherita as

Margherita, Ledo, Lekhapani, Jagun etc.
The vidyalaya, besides looking into the academic
excellence, is dedicated to help its students grow freely to develop
their latent talents. It also makes every possible effort to make sure
that the inherent faculties of its students are properly groomed and
nurtured so that they grow up with the virtues of righteousness,
fellow-feeling and love for the society and for the motherland. Besides,
adequate emphasis is laid on the study of rich cultural heritage of the
nation. To materialize this objective the vidyalaya strives its utmost
and leaves no stone unturned. It is the result of this endeavour that
today VKVian alumni are seen in different walks of life contributing
their lot in the reconstruction of the society.
